Puri Jagannath Ratha Yatra Festival 2016: Ratha Yatra is a Hindu festival associated with Lord Jagannath held at Puri in the state of Odisha, India. The most awaited festival of Rath Yatra or Car Festival Puri commences on the 06th July, Saturday and Return Car Festival or’ Bahuda Jatra’ falls on 15th July this year. Rath Yatra is one of the most awaited Hindu festivals of the state as well as the country. Lord Jagannath’s chariot, called Nandighosh, is 45.6 feet high and has 18 wheels. Puri Ratha Yatra History:

According to mythology, Lord Krishna would live in Puri during Kalyug. On this day, Lord Jagannath (a form of Lord Krishna), Balaram (also Balarama or Balabhadra) and their sister Subhadra visit their aunt for nine days, and their journey to and from this aunt’s house is what marks the two main days of the festival.

Lord Jagannath’s chariot is called as Chakradhwaja or Nandhighosa, which simply describe the tumultuous and blissful sound. 45 feet tall, 16 wheels, 65 tons weigh, Garuda on its crest along with four white wooden horses are the specific features of Lord Jagannath’s Rath.

Lord Balaram’s cart is called Taladhwaja, which means the sound of significantly powerful rhythm. It has 14 wheels and is drawn by four black wooden horses. It carries Hanuman on its crest.

Goddess Subhadra’s cart is called Padmadhwaja or Darpadalan, which means destroyer of pride. It has a lotus on its crest, uses 12 wheels, and is drawn by four red wooden horses.

East Coast Railway (ECoR) will run special trains for 2016 Puri Rath Yatra Festival.

Train No 08907 Visakhapatnam-Puri special will leave Visakhapatnam on July 5 at 1.20 p.m. to reach Puri the next day at 1.40 a.m. (early hours of July 6).

Train No. 08908 Puri-Visakhapatnam special train will leave Puri on July 7 on 00.30 hours (midnight) and will reach Visakhapatnam the same day at 11.30 a.m.

Train No. 08925 Jagdalpur-Puri special train will leave Jagdalpur on July 5 at 3 p.m. to reach Puri the next day at 11.30 a.m.

Train No. 08926 Puri-Jagdalpur special train will leave Puri on July 6 at 4.30 p.m. and will reach Jagdalpur the next day at 12.45 p.m.

Train No. 08907 Visakhapatnam-Puri will leave Visakhapatnam July 13 and reach Puri the next day at 1.40 a.m. (early hours of July 14).

Train No. 08934 Puri-Visakhapatnam will leave Puri on July 14 at 4.30 p.m. and will arrive in Visakhapatnam the next day at 2.30 a.m. (early hours of July 15).

Train No. 08925 Jagdalpur-Puri special train will leave Jagdalpur on July 14 at 3 p.m. and reach Puri the next day at 11.30 a.m.

Train No 08941 Visakhapatnam-Puri special train will leave Visakhapatnam on July 15 at 6.30 a.m. to reach Puri the same day at 5.30 p.m.

Train No. 08946 Puri-Visakhapatnam special train will leave Puri on July 15 at 11.30 p.m. and reach Visakhapatnam the next day at 11.30 a.m.

Train No 08954 Puri-Jagdalpur special train will leave Puri on July 16 at 00.45 hours (early hours of July 17) to reach Jagdalpur the same day at 9.30 p.m.
