Vijay Theri First Day Collections: Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s “Theri” movie is one of the most – awaited Tamil movies of 2016. Theri movie released on April 14, 2016, on the occasion of Tamil New Year (Puthandu) Festival in a record number of theatres. The movie has released with a lot of expectation on it and the audience has eagerly waited for the movie. On the opening day, the movie has over 250 shows alone in the capital city of Tamil Nadu. The makers of “Theri” have reportedly raked in over Rs. 35 crore from the sale of the rights of other regions, including overseas rights. The film will see the light of the day in more than 350 screens in Tamil Nadu, close to 100 screens in Kerala, 150 screens in Andhra Pradesh and 70 screens in Karnataka.

The film is now the third highest grosser in the U.S. from the premiere shows after Rajinikanth’s films like “Lingaa” ($404,566) and “Endhiran” ($260,000). Vijay’s latest film has beaten the records of Vikram’s magnum opus “I” ($168,795), Ajith Kumar’s “Yennai Arindhaal” ($110,000) and “Vedalam” ($92,392).

Theri which has been released in 31 countries in 562 screens, had premiere shows in many foreign countries and the first show was held in Singapore.

Theri has screened 272 shows across 20 screens in Chennai distribution area on its day of release. The film has collected a whopping Rs.1,04,98,350 as first-day collection in Chennai itself.

Earlier record was Shanakar’s ‘I’ with Vikram playing the lead role had collected Rs.84 Lakhs in Chennai on its first day.
