The United States President Barack Obama and Russia President Vladimir Putin Agree on General Path for Syria, U.S. Officials Say. Obama and Putin have reached consensus at the G20 on the need for “a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition”.  An intense discussion between Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin was caught on cameras, regarding civil war in Syria. The 35-minute meeting between Messrs. Obama and Putin took place during the Group of 20 summit in Turkey, following a sidelines meeting between Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin on Sunday, U.S. officials say. Obama also expressed his condolences for the downed Russian passenger jet in Egypt, which killed 224 people. A bomb suspected to have been planted on the plane by Islamic State is believed to have caused the crash.

“The killing of innocent people based on a twisted ideology is an attack not just on France, not just on Turkey, it is an attack on the civilized world,” Obama said earlier in the day during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

“We will redouble our efforts, working with other members of the coalition, to bring about a peaceful transition in Syria and to eliminate (ISIS) as a force that can create so much pain and suffering for people in Paris,” Obama said.

“Specifically, President Obama and President Putin agreed on the need for a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition, which would be proceeded by U.N.-mediated negotiations between the Syrian opposition and regime as well a cease fire. as the diplomacy continues,” the White House official said.
