Lepakshi Festival 2016: Andhra Pradesh government will organise Lepakshi Festival / Utsavam on a grand scale on February 27 & 28 to promote Telugu art, culture and traditions. Hindupur MLA and movie actor Nandamuri Balakrishna proposed the Lepakshi Utsavalu as Lepakshi falls under his Hindupur constituency in Anantapur district. Balakrishna said that, he will try his best to see that Lepakshi should be considered as World heritage site. Recently Balakrishna led a 5K run from MGM grounds in Hindupur of Ananthapur district and he is hoping that the festival will be a grand success, bringing tourists as well as revenue to the state. Balakrishna has also invited AP and TS Governor ESL Narasimhan to the Lepakshi Festival / Utsavalu held at Lepakshi in Ananthapur district. Mr. Raghunatha Reddy said that “The government has been organising various events – Visakha festival, Sri Krishnadevaraya festival, Tribal festival etc., and birthdays of eminent persons to promote and celebrate the Telugu language, literature, culture, traditional and folk arts and create awareness among the young generation,

Mr. Raghunatha Reddy said Rs.4.19 crore had been sanctioned for the festival including works to be taken up by departments such as tourism, endowments, APSRTC and all works would be completed by February 25.

Mr. Balakrishna said that the Lepakshi festival would showcase the unique culture, traditions and cuisine of Rayalaseema including the famous handlooms of Dharmavaram and Mudireddypalli. The tourist circuit promoting important places in Anantapur would help generate income for the drought-stricken district, he said.

Film artistes, singers and musicians from Kannada, Tamil and Telugu film industry would be involved in the Lepakshi festival / Utsavalu to generate awareness about the tourist place.

Lepakshi Festival / Utsavam 2016 Celebrations Live Streaming:

On the opening day there would be a ‘Dramotsavam’, ‘Sahasra Deepalankarana’ in a local temple, a performance by prominent drummer Sivamani. Among the participants would be several Central and State Ministers, legislators from the district, besides Telangana Minister A Chandulal, and several Karnataka Ministers.
