Mumbai Gangrape Video: Recently a video became viral on social networking site WhatsApp in the name of Mumbai Gangrape Video. A 15-year-old girl was gangraped by her friend and three others over a fortnight ago. The details of the crime emerged after the girl’s aunt received a video clip of the incident on WhatsApp. According to the reports they were between the ages of 15 and 16 and from the same neighbourhood. All five including the girl are Class 10 students of a school in Malad in the western suburbs of Mumbai. That the whole incident was well-planned in advance. One of the accused called the girl home to help him clarify some doubts he had about a chapter they were learning in school. After reaching his house, the girl found out that three of her other batchmates were also in his house. They raped her and took a video clip of the act to threaten her.

Then one of the accused shared the video with a friend, after which it went viral in the locality. The incident came into limelight when the victim’s aunt received the video and the girl narrated the whole scenario. Her aunt immediately filed a FIR at Malad police station.

The police has arrested all the accused of the crime and they have been booked under Section 376 (G) (gang rape) of the IPC and also under certain sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Malad senior inspector Shashank Sandbhor said, “One of the accused called the girl home to help him clarify some doubts he had about a chapter they were learning in school. After reaching his house, the girl found out that three of her other batchmates were also in his house.”

“Soon after the incident, one of the four boys shared the link of the video to a friend on WhatsApp and in a few days the video became viral,” Sandbhor said.

“All the four accused have been detained now and their medical inspection was conducted on Thursday. The accused are local minor boys, studying in class 9 and 10. These boys are infamous in the area for their bullying activities. As they are minors, they cannot be arrested and after being produced before a juvenile court, they have been sent to Dongri correction home on Thursday where they will be questioned by a Child Welfare Officer.” Sandbhor said.
