Salman Khan’s Sultan Movie First Day Collections: Sultan is a Hindi sports drama film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films banner, the film stars Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. According to forbes.com the film collected $A153,000 ($115,000) on only 29 screens on Wednesday (salman khan personal best by beating the bajarangi bhaijan record)

According to Comscore’s estimates, the opening day figures were $273,000 on 85 screens in the U.K. $371,000 on 19 in the U.A.E.

Trade pundits predicted that the sports drama film will do Rs 150 crore business over the opening weekend.

Sultan Movie Box Office Speculations by Trade Experts:

“We are hoping it will. It’s clear that there is no major competition. We are expecting it will earn, at least, if not more than, Rs70-75 million during Eid holidays,” Representative of Geo films Mohammad Nasir, official distributors of “Sultan” in Pakistan, told the daily.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said: “Salman Khan + Yash Raj Films + Eid release… it can’t get bigger than that. Over the years, Salman’s box office status has multiplied manifold and every film of his generates tremendous curiosity.

Adarsh added: “It’s a bit too early to predict if Sultan will surpass the business of his previous films. But the fact is that the advance booking has been fantastic and it being a five-day weekend, the film is expected to shatter records.”

Senior journalist and critic Bharathi S. Pradhan said: “It will be huge. But beating his own blockbusters may be a problem. It would depend on how good the film itself is. If it’s disappointing like ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, it won’t go beyond the expected initial draw.”

Says Girish Johar, distributor and film business analyst, “Sultan is a tsunami waiting to hit the Box Office; I can already feel it. The lull before the storm is already there now, what with the present days seeing the lowest turnover in the recent days. Yes, the film will definitely have one of the ‘top openings of all times’. As a matter of fact, I personally wish that it does a half century in one day.”

“With a five day weekend, collections can be in the range of Rs. 120 crore to Rs. 150 crore, if the content is good. It is the Eid period and a Salman Khan film is coming after a while. Moreover, promos are making the film looking further exciting,” says distributor Rajesh Thadani. His thoughts are echoed by distributor and exhibitor Harsh Jain, “Sultan is coming on Eid itself, which is a big plus. Looking at the craze around the film, the opening day itself can be more than Rs. 40 crore. Going ahead, the weekend would be somewhere around Rs. 130 crore. Beyond that it all depends on the merit of the film.”

“Considering the multiple factors such as the Eid advantage, popular music, Salman Khan’s massive popularity among the masses and the extended weekend, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sultan crosses Rs. 40 crore on Wednesday itself! If the film’s content lives up to the massive hype around it, the film could easily set new benchmarks for the business and even notch up as much as Rs. 140-150 crore in the extended weekend,” Akshaye continues to be mighty positive about the film.
